I used the steam link once on my desktop and then I think some drivers was installed. Now I have 3 devices listed on my Device Manager:
Microphone (Steam Streaming Microphone)
Speakers (Steam Streaming Microphone)
Speakers (Steam Streaming Microphone)
Since I am not using the steam link anymore, I want to get rid of there devices. Anyway they are not real devices plugged in my computer. But I tried to uninstall the devices and didn’t work. As long as I reboot my computer or scan for hardware changes, they get back.
I don’t understand why there devices can keep there when my computer has already no connection with the steam link and why I can not uninstall them. Any idea steam community? Thanks in advance.
I’ve got the same problem and until 20 minutes ago I was reading this post. I want to post a solution for all the users that have the same issue.
How to remove the Steam Streaming Speakers/Microphone
1. Go to Sound Settings
2. Disable the «Steam Streaming Speakers» (SSS in short)
3. Right Click on SSS and click on properties
4. Once it’s open click on the «Properties» inside the «Controller information» box
5. Near the bottom left corner there’s a button called «Change settings» that requires Administrative rights. click it
6. Once the properties window refreshes go to Driver Tab
7. Click on «Uninstall Device»
8. Click again on the uninstall button once the new window appear.
Warning: Don’t check on «Delete the driver software for this device» or you’ll uninstall Steam as well.
Once it’s uninstalled close all properties windows and you’re done. No device shown anymore. And no device switch is performed automatically anymore. Have fun 🙂
Those actually are part of Steam itself. I don’t own the Steam Link but I do have those in my audio devices as well. Uninstalling Steam should fix the problem.
steam adds them when you begin streaming (to link or other pc), and they are not always removed when you stop streaming
Isn’t there an Option on the STEAM Link Menu it’s self.
That lets you turn off those settings?
Which would actually fix the issue you are having?
I’ve not tried this myself, so I dunno if this fixes the problem.
But when using the STEAM Link. the Link outputs it’s own STEAM Speakers,
onto your TV, kinda like it streams the audio.
But if you change that Option in the STEAM Link Menu.
You can change it to show your TV’s Speakers instead.
I believe you can also set it up so that you can use other Speakers as well.
Which would or should fix the issue you are having with your PC or Windows Desktop,
displaying STEAM Speakers, or STEAM Streaming Speakers under Audio.
I did however noticed that the STEAM Link in BETA Mode has less features.
But i’m using a non-beta version of the STEAM Link.
So I dunno which version you are using.
Lastly, I am not possitive if the Microphone Option works the same way or not.
I’m not possitive. If this might help.
But I had an issue with STEAM, where a friends Account got stuck on my PC,
& everytime I would go to Sign-In, STEAM thought I was signing in on someone elses Account.
I’ve tried wiping out every single inch of STEAM off my PC,
& yet even after all that work, I would still find my friends Account linked to my PC.
I had to completely re-install windows to fix the issue.
The STEAM Speaker issue, if you have tried everything, & can’t get it to stop showing up.
It could possibly be more hastle to fix then, to just say screw it, & re-install windows.
But there is 1 other Place you can look besides the Device Manager.
Sadly I can’t remember what it’s called. or how to get there.
But there usually is STEAM files in that area on the PC. Is it possible that, the STEAM Speakers
thing could be found there as well?
Ah, here it is. Can this help? If you looked in the Registry Editor for anything STEAM Related?
Would that help fix the STEAM Speakers & STEAM Microphone?
Or would that not be found there?

Thanks. I did reinstall the windows and solved the issue. (The reinstallation was actually long planed and the wired devices issue motivated me to do that.)
Now I reinstalled steam and everything is still good.

Many hardware names are usually named after the chip model, and each chip model has its own dedicated driver, so as long as you know the chip model used by the hardware, you can find the right driver. For example, if your graphics card is named: «AMD Radeon RX 580», while actually the core chip model used is: «Radeon RX 580», then enter «Radeon RX 580» or «RX 580» to find the driver.
If you have a laptop or an all-in-one PC, you can also use the product name to search, and then go to the download page which has all the drivers for this machine (including: graphics card, network card, sound card, etc.). For example, if your laptop product name is: «Dell A6-9220e Inspiron Flagship», then type «Dell A6-9220e» to find all the drivers for this laptop.
1. Enter a keyword in the input box and click the «Search» button
2. In the query results, find the driver file you need, and click the download button
• Can’t find the required driver files?
• Don’t know how to find driver files?
• Unable to download driver files due to unstable network?
You can try using this driver file finder. The method of use is very simple. The program will automatically list all the driver files available for your current system. You can install drivers for devices that do not have drivers installed, and you can also upgrade drivers to the latest driver version for devices that have already installed drivers. Click here to download the driver finder.

The Steam Link audio drivers for Windows 8.1 and 10 PCs, hosted here since I couldn’t find an official Valve download for them.
If you’re unaware, Steam Link is a feature that allows the real-time playing of your Steam Library to and from various platforms. The audio drivers are typically installed on the first stream and any subsequent streams. One thing that seems to have gone relatively unnoticed about them is that at their core, the Steam Streaming Microphone and Steam Streaming Speakers are both functionally drop-in replacements for any existing Virtual Audio Cable setup, and it’s FREE! This is the backbone of my Soundboard.
Installation is simple, just right click the .inf files and click «Install».
If Valve comes across this and gets upset at me for publishing their shit without permission, that’s understandable. A lot of hard work probably went into making this, and I’m not looking to discredit the fine folks who made this beauty. I’ll be perfectly happy to remove this upload if requested — once a prominent publicly accessible download link for these files is placed on the Steam Link support site. Seriously guys, I got lucky by having a laptop with a functioning copy of the drivers on it. Not everyone has that luxury. This should be something that’s easy to find since you offer it for free.
All credit goes to Valve software.
